The Chipmunk & I
I had a very sweet experience today. Rising early I filled my cup with fresh brewed coffee. Then stepped out into my side yard to enjoy the morning before the heat of the day became unbearable. I suddenly spied a fat chipmunk exiting from the drainpipe of my neighbor's house...oh, about ten or twelve feet away from where I was sitting. He very quickly spied me spying him. He froze. I froze. And we sat there for several minutes just sizing up each other. There we were two mammals of different species caught for a moment in time. And millions of years ago our individual DNA's chose different paths so that now: today, we faced each other from different worlds: he filled with fear and I...filled with wonder.
